Scott Carter, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Matrix Security, has been awarded Life Membership of the New Zealand Security Association (NZSA), the highest honour bestowed by the Association.
Life Membership recognises outstanding service, commitment and dedication to New Zealand’s security industry and is reserved for individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on both the sector and the Association.
Scott joins a distinguished group of NZSA Life Members, including Sir William Gallagher, Mike Rutherford, Bruce Couper and Doug McCormick.
More Than 35 Years of Industry Leadership
The recognition reflects Scott’s more than 35 years of service to New Zealand’s security industry.
Growing up in New Zealand’s King Country, Scott developed an appreciation for hard work, resilience and the importance of strong communities. These values would prove influential throughout his career.
After serving with the New Zealand Police, he joined ADT Securitas in 1989 before founding Matrix Security in 1993, a business he continues to lead today.
His contribution extends well beyond Matrix Security. Scott served eight years on the NZSA Board, including four as Chair, and a further twelve years on The Skills Organisation Board, contributing to the advancement of industry standards, training and workforce development.
NZSA Chief Executive Officer Gary Morrison acknowledged the impact of Scott’s contribution:
“Scott’s contribution to the security industry extends far beyond the business he founded. Through his leadership and commitment to developing people, he has helped shape the industry we know today. Life Membership is a fitting recognition of that contribution.”

Scott has also held governance roles across a number of New Zealand sporting and community organisations and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. In 2015, he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for his contribution to sport.
A Legacy Reflected in Matrix Security
The values recognised through Scott’s Life Membership are also reflected in the business he has built.
For more than three decades, Matrix Security has focused on bringing together quality people, strong customer relationships and innovative security technology. The ongoing recognition of Matrix Security accreditations, audits, certifications and its people through the NZSA Awards reflects a culture of professional excellence, continuous improvement and leadership.
At this year’s NZSA Awards, Matrix Security had three finalists and won the Patrol Officer of the Year Award, marking the fourth time in the past ten years that the Matrix Security patrol team has received this honour.
